How do you find the right sunscreen and sun care products?

Ideally, sun care products are good for you AND good for the environment. To make sure you have fun outside without damaging your skin, it’s important to learn what’s inside the products you apply to your skin.

Here are seven summer tips to make sure your sunscreen is a healthy choice and your sun care products will protect your skin – throughout the summer and all year long!

  1. Read the ingredients – choose a sunscreen that uses simple, proven natural ingredients, like zinc oxide and aloe.

Did you know? We use 19% zinc oxide, and aloe is one of the first ingredients in our sunscreen!

  2. Read the label – Make sure you choose a sunscreen with SPF and broad-spectrum protection, which means it blocks against both UVA and UVB rays.

Did you know? According to the FDA “Sunscreen that is both Broad Spectrum and SPF 15 or above has been proven to reduce your chance of getting a sunburn, early skin aging, and skin cancer.”*

  1. Look for a “reef-safe” or “ocean-safe” sunscreen to make sure there’s no accidental harm to ocean life.

  1. Read the directions – and apply frequently. Even “waterproof” or “water-resistant” sunscreens need to be reapplied every 2 hours to be most effective.

  1. Protect your lips from the sun! We recommend a protective lip balm with SPF for the best coverage for healthy lips. Use it alone or with your favorite lip colors.

  1. Cover up and avoid the midday sun. If you really want a sun-kissed glow, avoid the sun and try Sunless Glow Tanning Lotion for a healthy look that won’t damage your skin! Find a cute, wide-brimmed hat and cover-up and take them everywhere!

  1. What about sunburn? When you’re having fun in the sun it’s easy to forget to re-apply your sunscreen. If that happens, use a high-quality pure aloe gel to soothe irritated or painful sunburned skin. We love our Aloe Vera Barbadensis Jelly because it can be used on cuts, scrapes, burns, and insect bites too!

Bonus tip:  Don’t forget to moisturize! After a day outdoors, make sure you and your skin stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and use an all-over moisturizer like our Hand & Body Lotion. It contains aloe as the first ingredient and comes in a variety of yummy scents. It’s available in a fragrance-free option too!

For everyday protection from the sun, we recommend a gentle moisturizer with aloe and SPF, like our Oil-Free Moisturizer with SPF. It’s specially formulated for everyday use and can be gently applied with dry fingertips.
